AS9102 Form 3 Template

A free characteristic accountability sheet for your first article inspection report. Enter a row per balloon and type the requirement with its tolerance. Each result turns pass or fail as you type it. Print it to PDF in landscape or export a CSV. It runs in your browser, and nothing leaves this page.

The official form is part of SAE AS9102, and your customer may require their own format. This sheet uses the same commonly used columns. For what goes in each one, read the Form 3 field-by-field walkthrough or the guide to Forms 1–3.

Traveler is building the FAI paperwork into the job.

Traveler is pre-launch quote-to-invoice software for small machine shops. Its planned compliance suite is being built to generate Forms 1–3 from part, job, lot, and inspection data. It will import characteristic lists from ballooning tools so you don't retype requirements, and it will flag inspections that use an out-of-calibration gage. None of that is live yet. Leave an email to get early access when it opens.

Form 3 questions

▸Is this the official AS9102 Form 3?

No. AS9102 and its forms are published by SAE International. This is a clean, equivalent sheet with the columns Form 3 commonly uses. Many customers accept an equivalent format as long as every required field is there, but some require their own form or a specific software output, so check the purchase order and your customer's quality requirements before you submit.

▸What goes in the Results column?

For dimensions, the actual measured value, such as 1.2512, not 'OK'. For attribute checks such as a visual inspection or a go/no-go thread gage, a conforming statement such as 'Conforms'. If a result is out of tolerance, record the actual value anyway and enter the nonconformance report number in that column.

▸How does the automatic pass/fail work?

The sheet reads the requirement as limits: bilateral (1.250 ±.005), unequal (.500 +.002/-.000), limit dimensions (1.245–1.255), and MIN or MAX. It then compares the measured value, with the limits counted as in tolerance. GD&T callouts, notes, and thread callouts aren't parsed; type Conforms or Reject for those. It's a convenience check. The inspector's judgment and the drawing still decide.

▸Where is my sheet saved?

Only in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing your browser data deletes it, so print to PDF or export a CSV of anything you need to keep.
